The ecoMicrogrid solution was developed in collaboration with the SMART RUE research team of ICCS-NTUA under the European project RE-EMPOWERED, where its performance and functionality were thoroughly tested in various microgrids across Europe (Gaidouromandra, Kythnos island, Greece) and India (Keonjhar and Ghoramara). Real-time measurements and testing procedures demonstrated the solution’s ability to enhance microgrid performance, confirming its reliability and effectiveness.

ecoMicrogrid – A solution ensuring maximum energy efficiency
One of the key features of the ecoMicrogrid tool is its ability to enhance the interoperability of various systems within a microgrid, ensuring the optimal utilization of the system's resources. To achieve this, the tool integrates advanced optimization techniques based on a predictive algorithm. This algorithm supports various functions, such as proactive energy management by forecasting future energy demands and generation patterns, enabling accurate and intelligent decisions for the ideal operation of microgrids.

The system architecture is based on a four-layer control scheme and has been developed in accordance with the IEEE 2030 standards. Additionally, the software architecture of ecoMicrogrid consists of two core subsystems: the Data Concentrator and the High-Level Functions. Their integration enables structured and efficient supervisory management, ensuring effective management across all levels of microgrid operation.

The ecoMicrogrid integrates multiple functionalities within a single device. Its scalability and flexibility allow it to adapt to evolving energy needs. Moreover, its interoperability ensures smooth communication and coordination among the various components of the microgrid, further enhancing its effectiveness and guaranteeing maximum energy efficiency. By reinforcing synergies among energy carriers, integrating multiple functions, and allowing for further expansion, the ecoMicrogrid tool is well-suited to meet the increasing demands of modern energy systems.
