DECOMPRES DEcarbonizing the Greek COMPREhensive portS

decompres

Project name: DECOMPRES - DEcarbonizing the Greek COMPREhensive portS

Duration: 01/10/2024 – 30/09/2028

Co-funded by the European Union

Project summary

The project addresses construction works for the installation of four Shore-Side Electricity (SSE) berthing positions at the Port of Rafina and studies for future SSE implementation in the ports of Corfu, Kavala and Lavrion. The berthing positions in Rafina will accommodate both passenger and freight vessels, while the studies for the ports of Corfu, Kavala, and Lavrion will address berthing positions for passenger, freight, and cruise vessels.

The objective of the project is the transformation of the four ports into greener, technologically advanced ports. It aims to achieve maritime emission-free operations and enhance ports’ performance through the upgrading and optimisation of ports’ energy networks and quality of their services, while ensuring their environmental viability. It will increase the ports’ energy efficiency contributing to the decarbonization of the transport systems in line with the EU Green Deal and the Sustainable and Smart Mobility Strategy.

The "DECOMPRES" project is a continuation of the "EALING" project (2019-EU-TM-0234-S), also co-funded by the Connecting Europe Facility, which provided the essential technical studies, tender documents, and environmental and financial assessments necessary for the construction works at the Port of Rafina.

Protasis scope

As part of the DECOMPRES project, PROTASIS S.A. is conducting the Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) studies for the Shore-Side Electricity (SSE) infrastructure at the ports of Lavrion, Kavala, and Corfu.

PROTASIS will deliver a comprehensive set of detailed technical studies that will outline the specifications for the SSE systems at these ports. Specifically, the studies will include the technical specifications for the main primary and secondary electrical equipment, load flow analyses to determine the proper sizing of the equipment, cost estimates for the procurement and installation of the SSE systems, and technical design studies in accordance with international standards to ensure compatibility between the port and vessel interconnections.
